Engagement Ring Settings
Setting refers to the overall design of a ring, in particular, how gemstones are set into a metal band. The setting is designed to highlight the beauty of the diamond. Styles such as solitaire and halo describe the overall design aesthetic of the ring.
Solitare Engagement Ring
The solitaire setting lifts a single diamond above the band and into the light, maximizing the stone's brilliance. This class setting usually features round brilliant cut diamond, but any diamond shape works with this style.
Halo Engagement Ring
The halo setting features a center stone encircled by a single or double halo of smaller diamonds. This style increases the appearance and overall sparkle of the ring.
Engagement Ring Settings
Prong Setting
The most common type of engagement ring setting. It features 4 or 6 metal prongs that securely cradle the stone in place at the girdle. Prongs curve over the stone's surface to secure it in place. The setting lifts the stone above the band to allow for maximum light return from the diamond, thus enhancing its brilliance.
Bead Setting
In a bead setting, small round pieces of metal resembling beads are raised from the surface and used to secure each gemstone. Bead settings are often used on bands because the metal beads reflect more light. Bead setting is perfect for adding accent diamonds to an engagement ring for an extraordinary sparkle.
